The word dissonance originates from Latin dissonant, “disagreeing in sound”, from the verb dissonare. A modern definition of the word is a tension or clash resulting from the combination of two disharmonious or unsuitable elements. Although these definitions may sound negative, There is beauty to be found in unresolved tension. The sound of an unexpected jazz chord strikes emotions heavier than a predictable note. Struggles create tension which can lead to  extraordinary growth. Dissonance symbolizes the tension in diversity of perspectives  in the MHC graduate class of 2026 uniting to form a cohesive whole.
